How to Treat Dandruff in Children

Dead skin shedding is a normal and natural process. There are several factors that can speed up this normal process. As with adults, this condition is very common in children. The main cause of dandruff in children is hormonal change. Some other common causes include:

  • improper rinsing of the scalp
  • oily scalp
  • dry weather
  • lack of nutrition
  • inadequate sleep
  • stress
  • hereditary

  • You can use various home based remedies to treat dandruff in children. Do consult with a good physician, if home remedies used by you fail to show improved results within first two weeks.
  • Lack of personal hygiene is also responsible for dandruff in children. Give your child some simple instructions on washing and shampooing hair nicely. Shampooing should be done thrice a week with a good quality shampoo, specifically designed to remove dry scalp flakes. Use an anti-dandruff shampoo, specifically formulated for children.
  • While shampooing, take some shampoo in your palm and massage it over the scalp of your child. Rinse off the shampoo with cold water.
  • Avoid using harsh hair care or hair styling product on your child’s scalp, as excessive use of hair styling products is also responsible for dandruff in children.
  • Use a good quality conditioner to moisturize the scalp, but avoid using greasy or oily hair conditioners. This remedy works great for dandruff due to dry skin.
Apart for these above given tips, you can also use several other dandruff treatment methods like herbal remedies, scalp massage etc. to threat this problem naturally. But, do not forget to take an expert advice of your doctor.
