Natural remedies for dandruff
Although there are many causes of dandruff problem, but it is thought that one of the most common causes is a breakdown of the scalps natural lipid barrier, which at last results in infection due to the microscopic yeast which is commonly found on the scalp. This infection is responsible for scalp cells, which in turn slough off in sticky patches and flakes.
Common symptoms:
- Red and inflamed itchy scalp.
- White or clear flakes on the scalp, through the hair, and on clothing.
Usually teen are more prone to this condition due to hormonal change or because of unhealthy hygienic habits. Stress is also one of the main contributors for dandruff.
Before, directly going to the natural remedies for dandruff- Follow some good – healthy tips for its prevention and treatment:
Nutrition
Try to avoid sugar or sugary foods because sugar foods in particular are known to exacerbate yeast infections
Cleansing
Massage is very beneficial in the treatment of dry scalp. Therefore, massage your scalp thoroughly before shampooing. This action will help you to remove any dead skin flakes and also helps prevent further infection.
Conditioning
Do not try to interfere your healing process by using conditioner on your scalp, try to use it on the ends of hair only.
Brushing
Brushing is also important to loosen and remove dead skin flakes. It also helps increase the smooth flow of sebum along the hair shaft, and increase blood supply to the hair follicles.
In order to avoid fungal infection from spreading , do wash your hand thoroughly after brushing and grooming. Washing your hands after brushing, massaging and grooming your hair will also help prevent re infection or cross infection.
Natural remedies for dandruff
Aloe vera
Apply thick gel of aloe vera leaves on your scalp before going to bed at night. Use shampoo in the morning for washing.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is also very effective in the natural treatment for dandruff.
It helps restore the acid/alkaline balance of the scalp.
It is loaded with anti bacterial properties which are necessary to kill – pores clogging bacteria.
In order to use it – Make a mixture by mixing equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water, apply this mixture on your scalp and let dry. There is no need to rinse.
Coconut oil
Daily application of coconut oil will always gives you a positive result.
Grapefruit seed extract
Mix seven to ten drops of grapefruit seed extract with normal herbal shampoo. Give massage and leave on for about 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with water, avoiding contact with eyes.
Ginger
Make a mixture by mixing olive oil and ginger root and apply to your scalp for about 10 to 15 minutes before shampooing.
Rosemary
Rub rosemary oil or a mixture of olive oil and crushed rosemary leaves into your scalp and leave on for 15 minutes.
Thyme
Boil 4 heaping teaspoons of dried thyme with 2 cups of water for approx. 10 minutes; strain and allow to cool. Massage this tea in your clean, damp hair; do not rinse out.
