Home remedies for dry scalp
There are many causes of dry scalp such as environmental or dietary which results in flaking, itching or even hair loss. The main cause of dry scalp is under active sebaceous glands the oil secreted by these glands is essential for healthy scalp and natural lubrication. Here are some common culprits for dry scalp problem:
Causes of dry scalp:
- Weather change.
- Central heating and air conditioning- due to reduced humidity.
- Hot baths and showers.
- Prolonged sun exposure.
- Using harsh shampoos and chemical based hair care products.
- Hard water.
- Diet.
- Allergies.
- Pollution.
Home remedies for dry scalp
- Try to give your scalp a massage or apply natural oils like avocado, coconut, jojoba or olive oil before shampooing.
- Apply any of the oil discussed above into the hair and place the hair in a bun for about 25 minutes.
- You can even wrap your hair under a plastic cap covered by a heat cap for added conditioning.
- You'll find that your hair will be more revived and manageable
- Use combination of jojoba oil and coconut oil. Massage it onto your scalp, before going to bed. It won't stain your bedding. Shampoo usually.
Dry itchy scalp remedy
- Soak ¼ cup of oatmeal in water for at least 25 minutes.
- Strain the liquid .
- Now, add 5 - 7 drops lavender oil and rosemary oil.
- Apply the resultant mixture on your scalp for 10 - 15 minutes.
Yogurt for dry scalp:
- After shampooing, try to massage your hair with a cup of yogurt. Leave it on for 15 to 25 minute. Yogurt is well known ingredient for dry scalp that helps condition your scalp.
Olive oil for dry scalp:
Olive oil contains moisturizing properties and honey helps soften the dry skin.
- Mix ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil + clear honey + skimmed milk.
- Apply this resultant mixture on your scalp.
- Leave it on for 30 minutes.
- Use warm water for rinsing.
Honey for dry scalp
- Use this remedy at least 2 times a weak.
- In order to make this remedy mix 1/2 cup of clear honey+ 2 to 3 drops tea tree oil + 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar.
- Apply it on your scalp and give a gentle massage
- Leave the mixture on your scalp for 30 minutes before rinsing it off in warm.
For severe cases:
Apple cider vinegar- ½ cup
Water - ¼ cup
Honey – 1 teaspoon
Lavender oil – 2 drops
- Mix all the ingredients together.
- Apply this mixture on the scalp properly.
- Wait for an hour before a warm water rinse. .
- Use this remedy – twice a week.
Note:- Avoid scratching a dry scalp, because scratching will make your scalp even more dry and itchy.
